Ecstatic Birth - Birth Preparation and Labour Support

Ecstatic Birth is a system designed to support women to give birth consciously, easily and without medical intervention. It has been developed by Binnie A. Dansby from her 20 years of work with clients and students around birth and birth preparation.

"We can give up our devotion to pain and struggle, expand and give birth to our babies, our projects and our lives in ecstasy." Binnie A. Dansby

Why would I want an ecstatic birth?

Over 30% of births in the UK now require medical intervention whereas Ecstatic Birth has resulted in less than a 3% intervention rate.

A fundamental philosophy of Ecstatic Birth is that our own experience of gestation and birth influences the way we in turn give birth.

Research in the field of pre and peri-natal psychology has shown that we do remember our birth. That memory, held deep in the subconscious mind, together with outside influences and information about birth can create fear and tension, inhibiting the body's natural ability to let go during birth.

Research has repeatedly demonstrated the link between gentle, easy births and happier, more relaxed babies. It therefore follows that offering your baby the opportunity to be born into an atmosphere of gentleness, safety and ease is the greatest possible gift.

Women who have birthed their babies in this way consistently report feelings of deep satisfaction and elation. I frequently hear comments such as: "I feel so empowered" and " I feel like I can do anything I choose now."

"If a Doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it."   Dr Marshall KIaus
